Macaroon or Macaron

Do you know the difference between a 'Macaroon' and a 'Macaron'?

No... well, a macaroon is usually made from ground Almond or Coconut and usually baked on rice paper. A macaron is a meringue based confection made from ground almond, icing sugar, egg whites and food colouring.

1. Macarons

 2. Macaroons

Well, todays blog is going to be about the good old macarons, often confused with macaroons, but see definition and photos above.
A couple of days ago I was given a sample of my favourite 'petit fours' (bite sized after meal treats), the very colourful, very tasty Macarons.
Not just any macarons, macarons from a local, trusted store Yipsy Macarons  here in my native Birmingham.
Angela, from Yipsy, who makes all the handmade macarons personal delivered these little pieces of heaven to my front door... bless her heart. So when i got home from work, i stuffed my face with these amazing treats.

'Handmade just for you...'

The package consisted of four macarons in a cute company bag with a business card pegged to it (see pic).
Front of bag with Yipsy business card
Bag after business card has been removed, showing Yipsy logo, company colours and 'handmade just for you...' slogan
Back of bag showing allergy advice- THEY CONTAIN NUTS!!

Yipsy business card.

Don't they look adorable?

So these four fantastic flavours are a bit of heaven. I ate 3 of the four (as of course, much to my dismay, i was made to share!!) :( heheh ;) So i can only review 3 of the 4 flavours.. which are a taste sensation by the way!

The shell (the outer baked part of the bite sized treat) was of perfect texture. It's crispy, not to the point of it being hard, but it's firm, like a macaron should be. and the filling, OMG... that was just pure bliss, i have no words. you have to taste it to believe it.
Although i only got to eat 3 of these, my sister's reaction when she was biting in to this food of the gods was ... "MMMM, these are nice man!" (yes, this is what she said verbatim.) (she ate the chocolate praline)

So, a huge HUGE HUGE thank you to the lovely Angela from Yipsy. This woman deserves an award for making food.. hang on let me correct myself... for making these beautiful desserts as tasty, as colourful and as healthy* as these!!

Yipsy was founded by Angela Yip, who left the world of financing as she had dreams of owning her own business.
Her goal was to create the perfect macaron which is the right amount of crispy, chewy, creamy and melt in your mouth goodness. Bursting with flavour and vibrant in colour, these macarons will not only brighten up your day, they are that little bit of joy you need, that bounce to make you smile. :)

From the company blog, to being featured in the Stay.com article of recommended places to have your sweets in Birmingham, the company is gaining popularity and forever growing.

There are many many macarons to choose from at Yipsy.
The 'Classic Collection' (£1.25 each) - Chocolate Praline, Vanilla, Cookies and Cream, Strawberry, Raspberry, Pistachio, Salted Caramel and Lemon.
Wedding favours and Macaron tower.
'Kiddies Corner' (£1.50 each) - Hello Kitty, Bunny rabbits, Little chicks and Teddy Bears.
or you can order personalised macarons with company logo, offering bespoke flavours and colours to match company brand.

or simply buy a box of 12 (classic collection) for £15. <--- my choice. ;) shhh.

Not only can you get personalised macarons from Yipsy, she offers delivery to anywhere in UK and beautiful gift wrapping with a message of your choice.

So pop over to the Yipsy Macarons site now for all information of the company and ingredients, flavours etc...

If you simply choose to look at the website to find out information, pop on over to twitter and say Hi to Angela on twitter or Facebook and tell her i sent you! ;)
Enjoy those Macarons people.

BzzKit review | Santa Maria Fajita kit

Friday, July 04, 2014

Hi guys and welcome to yet another post this week,

this post is going to be a review on a BzzKit i received from BzzAgent.co.uk
It's amazing! and if you're interested then please do read on! ;)

When this huge package came in the mail i was so excited to open it; it was the Santa Maria tortilla kit. In the kit was- - 1 packet of 8 wheat tortillas - 1 x seasoning mix - 1 x 300g squeezy salsa - 1 x 60g Five Peppers grinder - 1 x 125g of Heat, Spice and Shake corn chips - 1 x 13g sachet of Heat, Spice and Shake smokey BBQ chip seasoning.

I wanted to know if this kit would meet the needs of all my family members; my mother and i don't like spicy/hot food, but my sister's like a mild spice. This kit suited everybody, it wasn't spicy but had a kick. and the smell was divine!!
I was so excited to try this! and it was a meal for free, all i had to purchase was 500g chicken and salad as a side (OPTIONAL). I was a little dubious about the salsa and the five spice grinder because i don't usually eat spicy food but it wasn't too bad! i'd eat it again!

The seasoning mix was delicious; it was the 'mild' seasoning (which i thought would have been a little spicy- cause other leading brands have mild seasoning and it's still a bit HOT!) but this wasn't, it was DELICIOUS. the wraps were nice warmed in microwave for 8 seconds each or for 45 seconds altogether (varies depending on microwave wattage).

As a side dish i decided to use the chips and seasoning so we all could dip into and eat for that extra bit of crunch. and i can say, these are amazing. i warmed them in the microwave for 30 seconds and then added the spice then shook and tipped into big bowl- and there is nothing left only crumbs. everything went well with the family!! :) nothing was left!

So after cooking a meal for my family using the products out of this kit, I can certainly say that i would definitely purchase the Santa Maria fajita kit, the corn chips and the seasonings. I know there are other seasonings, dips, sides you can purchase; such as guacamole, sour cream, hot seasoning-- but i am happy with what i got a would definitely recommend this brand for everyone to try. For a nice tasty meal that all your family would like, go on, go out and buy the Santa Maria fajita kit! :)

And on the plus side, if you're a vegetarian- there are none meat options that you can put in your fajita's-- lentils, beans, chick peas, rice. so everyone can get use out of this amazing brand. thanks for reading, and i hope you enjoy your meal as much i did! :)

Thanks for reading and hope to see you back here soon! :P

Sunday, June 29, 2014

Hey guys,

sorry i've been away for a while- some stuff has happened that has taken a while to deal with. but now i'm back and have a review for you guys! :) i hope you're ready...:)

Today i am reviewing the June Birchbox for you guys, and let me tell you, it's AMAZING! and great value. The theme of this box is the World Cup, so Birchbox are sending out items from different countries. And this month i received some great products.

So, you may or may not know that Birchbox is a monthly subscription beauty box and each month you get between 5-6 samples to try out. The monthly box, that;s the one i get, is £10 + p&p (£2.95), so i pay £12.95 for my monthly Birchbox.

This month Birchbox have upped their game and have definitely gave us a box worth the hype and more than triple the value of the box itself.

As usual the box itself is just brown, but it's what's inside that counts.

In keeping with this months most talked about subject, all products were "World Cup"inspired, here are a list of the items, prices and countries they are associated with-

The items I received were-

1. Beautyblender and blender cleanser (USA) - £26

2. OPI mini nail varnish from Brazil collection (Brazil). full size = £11.95.

3. Naobay body radiance lotion. Sample size. (Spain)- £14

4. Caudalie Vinoperfect SPF15 Day Perfecting Fluid. Sample size. (France)£38

5. Silk+Honey Shea butter hair mask. full size- one item. (UK£55 for set

6. Birchbox UK free item- Brazil inspired keying (Brazil) - FREE.

So guys, from the prices, you can see that this box is well worth it! Ranging from skin care, haircare, cosmetics and nail varnish- this box will suit everybody!
